Couch to 5K Training Guide
Couch to 5K is a beginner program that builds from walking to running 5 kilometres over about nine weeks. You train three days a week, alternating running and walking intervals that gradually lengthen the running portions. By the final weeks you run 5K continuously. Keep every session conversational — easy effort is the whole point.

Overview
Couch to 5K (often written C25K) is the most common on-ramp into running. It assumes no running background and uses run/walk intervals so your muscles, tendons, and aerobic system adapt without the overload that causes early injuries.
The structure is simple: three runs a week, never on back-to-back days, with the running intervals getting longer and the walking breaks getting shorter each week. Consistency matters far more than speed — finishing each session feeling like you could have done a little more is exactly right.

Frequently asked questions
How long does couch to 5K take?
Most plans run 8–9 weeks with three sessions a week. If a week feels hard, repeat it before moving on — there is no penalty for taking longer.
How fast should I run during couch to 5K?
Run easy enough to hold a conversation. The running intervals are about time on feet, not pace. If you are gasping, slow down.
Can I do couch to 5K on a treadmill?
Yes. The treadmill makes interval timing easy and the surface is forgiving. Set a 0.5–1% incline to better mimic outdoor effort.
What if I miss a week?
Pick up where you left off, or repeat the last week you completed. A short break will not undo your progress.
